Doing It For The Environment
Welcome to September
We've made it to the last four months of 2019 and now it's our time. Now more than ever is the time to start rethinking some core messages to help better our environment and planet Earth as we know it.
Hi, I'm Summer and I have a lot on my mind; welcome to my blog. When I started embracing my lifestyle I've always been along the lines about body image, eating healthy, working out, and living through myself. After five months of inactivity from myself, although negative, a positive that came over time are the new ideas that are flowing heavily.
If you're following my Instagram @summerskyeraine, you'll see IGTV videos for my transitioning for betting the environment. These core messages trickle into me living my best life and hopefully encourage you to rethink the practices in your life or even find ones that suit your lifestyle, too.
What are the core messages?
1. Reduce our plastic intake
2. Make more vegan friendly meals
Reducing our plastic intake. . .
As I am sure you've seen articles on Facebook, Instagram, News, Google, etc. . the ocean is flooding with plastic. I remember when I first read these articles. I was feeling sad, but I also remember not doing anything about it, "what can I do anyway?" "It's not my fault?" "I'm not putting my plastic there?" Are these questions familiar to ones you may think, too? It's crazy to me how most events don't stay relevant. . . from songs we used to listen to, to natural disasters and all the "bad" occurrences we've seen in the news but forgot about.
THIS CAN NOT BE ONE OF THEM! This is the kicker that changed my perspective because, no, you did not go up to the ocean and put your trash in it, but it's still there isn't it? We're all contributing by purchasing these products and if this is another thing we forget about. . . we can forget about our future. The ocean is 100% necessary for our survival and I've seen my fair share of videos about the coral reefs and sea animals that are dying.
SHORT TERM CONVENIENCE WILL NEVER LEAD TO LONG TERM SUSTAINABILITY.
And what makes me most furious is the fact reusable cups and bags and natural containers are so nicer than the collected trash, yet it's been normalized. It's NOT normal! (Imagine a cubboard filled with all your fast food cups. . . . )
We're in charge of our lives, our society is us: we are human beings in charge. What decisions do you want to support and partake in?
What can we do. . .
We can buy resuable bags and use them.
We can buy reusable cups and straws and use them.
We can eat at local cafes or diners instead of fast food and do it.
We can shop locally and do it.
We can shop in bulk and do it.
We can spread awareness and do it.
We can make it normalized again to be NATURAL and it will be.
We can say NO.
What does veganism have to do with this?
"Vegan?" "Oh my goodness, that's stupid" ~Gets repulsed~ ~Cringes~ *Sudden moment of shock, wait what?* Why do I feel everyone is scared of the word vegan?
IT IS NOT SCARY!
The articles about the Amazon and even Africa being on fire boil down to the fact they say the land is needed for cattle; more farm land. Our land ecosystems, next to the ocean, is also 100% NEEDED for survival. Again, eating animal products has just been normalized so I understand that you may have known nothing different, so not eating them may come to WAY big of a change for you.
Although, it's not as scary or as hard as it seems. There are so many vegan products that taste just as good, if not better, and are better for you.
What Can We Do. . .
We can support vegan staple products (like butter, yogurt, milk) and do it.
We can rethink our practices by allowing meat to be a delicacy and earn it.
We can buy free range eggs from happier chickens and do it.
We can DENY fast food resturants and eat at home.
We can spread awareness to cut back and do it.
We can say NO.
